Workshop on Enhancement of the Professional Level on the Localisation of Policy on Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men

 

On January 16, 2019 at the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service (NACS) a workshop on enhancement of the professional level on the localisation of policy on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men began, supported by the Office of Vice-Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna KLYMPUSH-TSINTSADZE and UN Women in Ukraine project.

First Deputy Head of NACS Volodymyr KUPRII in his welcoming speech expressed gratitude to the participants and underlined that in recent years Ukraine has attained significant progress in implementation of public administration reform and gender policy realisation that contemplates not only balanced participation of women and men in decision-making process and prohibiting gender discrimination, but also establishment of gender equality in civil service system and service in local self-government authorities which would affect process of further democratization of our State,

Representative of UN Women in Ukraine project “Gender Equality in the Center of Reforms, Peace and Security” Galyna MESHCHERIAKOVA welcomed participants and admitted that Ukraine has adopted a series of legislative acts regarding issues of gender policy, in particular  National Action Plan to implement concluding observations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women based on consideration of the Eighth Periodic Report of Ukraine, National Action Plan “Women, Peace and Security” (2016) to implement UN Security Resolution 1325 and State Social Program on Providing Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men up to 2021, for which issues of implementing regional and local programs on gender equality and professionalization authorized persons (coordinators) on ensuring equal rights of women and men become increasingly important.

Representatives of  local public administrations, self-government authorities and united territorial communities, international and public organizations, experts of the UN Women in Ukraine project, Gender responsive budgeting (GRB), National Democratic Institute (NDI) and others are invited to participate in the event.

During the workshop the participants will be able to get acquainted with the current status of gender policy implementation in Ukraine, main principles and provisions of the national documents on gender policy and gender-responsive budgeting issues as a instrument for implementing gender policy, and to discuss the main challenges on implementation of gender equality and women's rights.
